The distributor will need to be switched to a non-computer control HEI when you switch to a carburetor. Not all HD engines have the quadrajet to TBI adapter plate. My personal opinion, the TBI system just needs to pump more fuel/air into a performance 454. The quadrajet and HEI are the least expensive, provided good used parts are available..
